Sladovna Písek is the largest interactive gallery in the Czech Republic The programme concept of the "Playful Gallery" that was implemented in Sladovna in 2013, significantly promoted tourism in the city. In 2021, Sladovna was certified as Home of 21st Century Education - a place where families and children - by culture, arts and play - can learn how to positively change the future. The certificate was granted by Hands On!, an International Association of Children in Museums.
In 2018, we opened the Animation Lab for a short time and launched our experiments in the world of animation. From 2019 to June 2021 we are using the Animation now project, - an interreg cross-border cooperation project with the Trickfim Studio of the Vienna Children's Museum ZOOM, we have developed the Animarium concept - an immersion into the world of animation. Unlike many other similar projects in other institutions, we focused more on the development of our visitors through games and experiments with animation techniques, than on the production of audiovisual content. Thus, Studio 1 was created, designed for individual and collective experimentation with basic animation techniques and principles that the language of animation uses. Second only to Studio 2, which is fully equipped for serious animation production. So far least used is the youngest AudioStudio, ready for recording and audio post-production.
The focus of our work is precisely the principle of the Laboratory (which we have been developing at the Malthouse for a long time), where we consider the creative exploration of the principles that audiovisual art uses to be more important than the actual production of audiovisual content. In our longer-term work, however, we do not shy away from the ambition to produce short animated films. The focus of our work, however, remains on collaborative experimentation. Currently, for example, in the field of site-specific animation or sound. I will present how we work with the public, school groups and teachers in my contribution.
