It is very difficult for today's teenagers to understand the world of films longer than shorts on YouTube or TikTok. The more trained of them can handle Netflix series. For the rest, I try to introduce them to the world of cinematic narratives through documentary film. When screening it, it initially requires controlled stopping, explaining — and learning to discuss its content. Ideally, the pupils should experience the making of a film from the beginning, together with me and the lecturers of the Center of Documentary Film. Film technique, subject matter, script, storyboard, production, sound, camera — and the filming itself. This is also how the subject of Media Education can be approached.
