A short look into early childhood film education at DFF

Samira Jakobi

In projects like MiniFilmclub, Cinemini and Lichtspielplatz, the education team at DFF has developed education formats for 3 – 6-year-olds that focus on experimental and historical films and ways to engage with them. In close cooperation with educators from kindergartens and other film education partners, we realize formats that aim at giving young children an explorative, associative, and aesthetic approach to engaging with film. Underlying is the understanding of educators as mediators that explore the world of film alongside the children, to enable them to draw their own conclusions and experience themselves as competent individuals.
