European examples of good practice for V4 - theory

The Visegrad Young Film Days as a part of the Young Film Fest Industry Programme is focused on development of audiovisual education in countries from the Visegrad Group (V4: Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia). The diverse audiovisual production (in the media and social media, and also films and TV shows available both online and in cinemas) influences children and youth on a mass level.

The diverse audiovisual production (in the media and social media, and also films and TV shows available both online and in cinemas) influences children and youth on a mass level. 

 

The goal of The Visegrad Young Film Days project is to draw attention to the importance of audiovisual education at the international level, especially in the V4 countries. The project focuses on the professional organizations of cultural events for children and youth related to audiovisual education.

The aim of The Visegrad Young Film Days 2022 is to refine the topic of short films for young people (12-18 years) during the meeting on 22nd of April 2022 in Centre for Contemporary Art DOX, Prague. Invited experts from the best European film festivals for children and youth and from the project Art of Survival Documentaries (project is part of European capital of culture Tartu 2024) will present examples of good practice and all the participants will discuss the possibilities of how to think and work with this format regarding audiovisual education.

Daniel Lundquist (International Film Festival for Children and Youth BUFF, Malmö, Sweden)

Daniel Lundquist has a Masters Degree in arts administration. For several years he worked in various positions at the Swedish Film Institute and at the City of Malmö Culture Department. In 2009 he started working with BUFF Film Festival, the international film festival for children and youth.

Daniela Toma (Nordic Youth Film Festival, Tromsø, Norway)

Daniela Toma is the Producer of the Nordic Youth Film Festival (NUFF), a film workshop and film festival that takes place yearly in Tromsø. Daniela is also a self-taught filmmaker and photographer. She is originally from Moldova but she grew up in Greece where she studied Law at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She continued her legal studies in Iceland and Norway where she worked as a researcher in projects about marine environmental protection. When she moved to Northern Norway, she started making short films as she is interested in the relation between human and nature, identity and immigration. The most recent film she co-directed, Arctic Utopias, was screened at TFF 2022 (Tampere Film Festival) and won the Sustainability Award. 

Liisa Nurmela (Art of Survival Documentaries, Tartu, Estonia)

Liisa Nurmela has been working in the cultural sector for ten years with producing and communication, with a focus on film festivals. Her passions lie in user experience, digital environments and communication. As the owner of Nurmeli Productions, she is working with Arts of Survival Documentaries which is a part of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 main programme in Estonia; Göteborg Film Festival in Sweden and a Nordic-Baltic Network ActinArt. Liisa is also stepping into the mentoring world working together with the Estonian Academy of Music and Theater. As a multitalented, passionate and determined person, she is trying to make the world a better place with what she is working with. 

Monica Koshka-Stein (KUKI, the Young Short Film Festival, Berlin, Germany)

Monica Koshka-Stein grew up in Australia and has been involved in independent art, music and film projects since moving to Berlin in 1993. Since joining the team at INTERFILM International Short Film Festival Berlin in 1998 she has worked in a variety of roles and in 2010 became Artistic Director of interfilm's festival for children and youth, “KUKI Young Short Film Festival Berlin”. In September 2021, Monica was invited on to the Selection Committee for short films in the Generation section of the Berlinale. Now she is currently busy organising an online platform for German secondary schools, that focusses on film education and democratic values through entertaining and inspiring short films called, "Kurzfilm im Klassenraum" that will be launched in April 2022. Monica has served on numerous film festival juries and regularly curates short film programs for young audiences for institutions and festivals worldwide.

Sonia Le Pape (International Film Festival for Children and Youth Cinema in Sneakers/Kino w trampkach, Warsaw, Gdansk, Poland)

Sonia Le Pape is manager of cultural projects. She has been cooperating with the Fundacja Cinemania since 2017, where she is responsible for managing cultural projects. Producer and programmer of the International Film Festival for kids and youth Cinema in Sneakers (Kino w Trampkach). She is the coordinator of the European Film Award for Young Audience / EFA YAA in two Polish cities - Warsaw and Gdańsk. She has worked with initiatives such as: Warsaw International Film Festival, HER Docs - a festival promoting documentary work of women and SplatFilmFest! - Fantastic Film Festival. She graduated cultural studies at the University of Warsaw and postgraduate studies in Culture Managers at the Warsaw School of Economics.
